Subscriptions Categories vs. Subscriptions

Subscription categories allow for the logical grouping and sorting of the offers you provide to your users, as well as the general configuration of subscriptions within each category. There is a 1:n relationship between subscription categories and subscriptions, meaning that each subscription must be linked to a specific subscription category, while a single category can encompass multiple subscriptions. Depending on the configuration, subscription categories can also be displayed as advertisements in the cockpit, nudging users to purchase your product.

A subscription represents a good, product, or service that was acquirered by the user. Depending on the availability of information, each subscriptions displays the following information:

  • Subscription title Name of the subscription
  • Subscription description Additional information that you want to provide to the subscription
  • Start date Date the subscription is valid from
  • End date Date the subscription is expiring
  • Payment frequency Frequency in which your subscription management system is subtracting the payment from the user
  • Price Costs of the subscription per payment frequency. The displayed currency is configured in the respective Subscription Category.

Information for which no data is available will not be displayed in the front end.

Subscription States

To determine the validity of a subscription, Unidy defines the following states:

  • Active: The subscription is valid.
  • Passive: The subscription is valid but primarily used for categorization, such as differentiating between active members (e.g., players) and passive members (e.g., fans) in football clubs.
  • Inactive: The subscription is no longer valid, either because the end date has been reached or due to issues such as payment failure. Depending on the subscription category configuration, inactive subscriptions may not be displayed in the cockpit.

The subscription state plays a critical role when subscriptions are used as access rights during the login process. When users log in to integrated services, the current subscription state can be passed along, providing the integration partner with relevant access information.

Exporting subscriptions

In addition to displaying subscriptions to users and utilizing them as access rights, Unidy offers a subscription export feature. This allows users to download their subscription information as a wallet pass or PDF, making subscriptions like memberships or insurances easily accessible in daily life. To enable this feature, please contact your Unidy Customer Success Manager (CSM).

The export option is displayed as a button within each subscription. When clicked, a pop-up window appears, allowing users to choose their preferred export format.

There are two export options available:

  1. Wallet Pass: Users can select this option to download a .pkpass file, which is compatible with Apple Wallet and many Android wallet apps, such as Wallet Passes.
  1. PDF File: For users without smartphones or those who prefer a printable format, subscriptions can also be exported as a PDF file.

This flexibility ensures all users can conveniently access their subscriptions in the format that best suits their needs.

The Wallet Pass features a customizable and flexible design to display various subscription details. By default, the front side supports up to eight data fields, including a subscription logo, a QR code, and five additional text fields that can be tailored to meet your specific requirements while maintaining optimal use of the available space. The back side includes a free text field, allowing you to provide important information such as terms and conditions or relevant links, ensuring that all subscription details are easily accessible to users.

When a subscription expires, the Wallet Pass is automatically invalidated and deactivated. For subscriptions with regular renewals, an automatic update feature ensures the pass remains current. This functionality allows the pass to update in the wallet even if the subscription has expired and the pass is marked as invalid. If a Wallet Pass is no longer valid or needed, users can simply remove it from their wallet by selecting the "Remove Card" option.
