Displaying Newsletters in Unidy

In Unidy, the newsletter system is structured into three levels, offering high flexibility and great user experience. For an in-depth overview, please refer to Newsletter:

  1. Newsletter Newsletter subscription your customer subscribes / opts into
  1. Preferences Topics your customer is interested in and wishes to receive information about
  1. Preference Group Logical group your preferences to create a great UX for your users

Unidy offers a wide range of customization options for newsletters, allowing you to organize preference groups in two distinct formats.

Flat Preference Groups

Display preferences directly within the newsletter interface, offering a simple and streamlined user experience.

Accordion Preference Groups

Alternatively, preference groups can be presented as an accordion, where preferences are organized under collapsible sections featuring customizable headers and subheaders. This format is ideal for presenting detailed categories or creating a more structured visual layout.

No Preferences required

Adding preferences to your newsletters is optional but highly advantageous for gaining deeper insights into your users’ interests. Incorporating preferences fosters engagement and provides valuable data to support personalized communication strategies. Alternatively, if simplicity is your priority, you can offer multiple newsletters without utilizing preferences or preference groups.

Managing Newsletters in Unidy

Unidy provides dedicated front-end interfaces that enable your users to manage their newsletter subscriptions, whether they are logged in or logged out. Furthermore, users can manage their subscriptions through our front end without having a Unidy account, making it an excellent tool for converting newsletter subscribers into valuable account holders.

Subscribing to a Newsletter and Editing Preferences

Users can subscribe to a newsletter by clicking the Subscribe button or toggling a preference button, which automatically subscribes them to the corresponding newsletter. Once subscribed, users can manage their preferences anytime by toggling the relevant buttons on or off, giving them complete control over their newsletter settings.

Double Opt-In (DOI) vs Single Opt-In (SOI) Flow

A Double Opt-In (DOI) email, as required by GDPR, is a two-step process to confirm a user's consent to receive marketing communications. After signing up, the user receives an email with a confirmation link. Only by clicking this link does the user provide explicit ownership of the email address and consent, ensuring compliance with GDPR’s requirements for clear and affirmative consent. However, this requirement applies only to users who are not already logged into Unidy, as logged-in users have already confirmed ownership of their email address during the authorization process.

ℹ️
In most countries a double opt-in (DOI) email is an essential and mandatory step to ensure data protection compliance in interactions with your users, particularly under European GDPR regulations.

To maximize conversion rates, users are notified that they will receive a confirmation email after clicking the Subscribe button to verify their newsletter subscription. This notification disappears once the user confirms the opt-in, and the confirmation date is recorded in Unidy. Users can resend the Double Opt-In (DOI) email by clicking on the "Resend Confirmation" button.

In the Single Opt-In (SOI) flow, users are subscribed to the newsletter immediately upon clicking the Subscribe button, without receiving a confirmation email or viewing a DOI confirmation message. The opt-in date is recorded at the moment the user clicks the Subscribe button.

Manage Newsletter in Logged Out State

Users do not require a Unidy account to subscribe to a newsletter or manage their subscriptions. This flexibility allows you to engage and convert users not only during the registration process but also at the point of newsletter subscription, maximizing opportunities to grow your audience.

The newsletter page is also accessible in a logged-out state, where users see a simplified version that allows them to create new subscriptions and manage existing newsletters and preferences. There are two different options for accessing this page.

Access Newsletter Front End with Preference Token Link

Every newsletter subscription in Unidy is identified by the unique Newsletter Preference Token. By appending this token to the URL below, users who click the link are redirected to their personalized newsletter cockpit. https://brand.unidy.de/newsletter?token=Exemplarytoken

We recommend adding this URL to the newsletter administration button/link in every newsletter you send to your users, providing them with easy access to their personalized newsletter cockpit.

Access Newsletter Front End without preference token link

When users access the page via a general link (e.g., https://brand.unidy.de/newsletter), they are prompted to enter their email address in the top-right corner of the page. This action triggers an email with a confirmation link. By clicking the link, users are securely redirected to their personal newsletter management page. This extra security step helps prevent misuse of email addresses and ensures that only authorized users can manage their subscriptions.

Unsubscribing from a newsletter

To unsubscribe from a newsletter, users can simply click the Unsubscribe button in their newsletter cockpit. Please note that deactivating all preferences does not automatically unsubscribe the user from the associated newsletter. For users subscribed to multiple newsletters, the "Unsubscribe from All" button, located in the bottom-left corner of the page, allows them to unsubscribe from all newsletters at once.
